College Summer Conference 2000

The College of Diplomate’s Summer Conference 2000 was held in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, August 9-13 and was attended by almost 100 Diplomates and family. An exceptional scientific program was balanced with the time and opportunities to enjoy fellowship and the outdoor activities in the nearby Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Park. The scientific program presented by James Simon, Shimon Friedman and Dag Orstavik, Endodontics: From Success and Failure to Disease Control, provided some good practical clinical advice supported by a current and comprehensive review of the histophysiological and clinical evidence. Course evaluation forms rated the sessions as superior with many comments that it was “the best they had ever attended. Diplomates, including both young and retired members, educators, researchers, and clinicians attended every session and not one seat was empty during the three one-half day scientific sessions. Mentors were joined by the first group of Diplomates that had been successfully mentored. Some participants compared the overall experience to the early AAE Annual Sessions and their enthusiasm and support for the College was demonstrated by the many volunteers for standing and newly formed ad hoc committees. Every College member can appreciate from there own volunteer experience the organizational efforts of Stu Fountain, Lamar Hicks, Louis Rossman, Tom Mork and Leif Bakland in achieving such a successful first conference. As Conference Chairman, Founder and first President Stu Fountain led everything from the invocation to the Texas Two-Step and seemed to enjoy every minute of it with enough energy left over for some hard backcountry hiking. We can’t thank him enough. Support for future College sponsored Summer Conferences was overwhelming and initial plans for the summer of 2002 are already floating around the Board of Directors. We can expect this summer’s participants to return and hope all Diplomates will join the College and consider joining us.

Mentors Needed!

One of the goals of the College is to assist endodontists pursuing certification by the American Board of Endodontics. That goal was enthusiastically embraced by many Diplomates when the College was founded two years ago. Many Diplomates signed up as mentors at the organizational meeting of the College.

The mentor program has been in development over the past two years. The College has completed the major task of putting together A Mentor's Guide to Board Certification in Endodontics. These guides have been mailed out to registered mentors.

We have developed a comprehensive database to match board candidates with mentors. Currently, we need more mentors in every area of the country. If you would like to assist one or more of your endodontic colleagues in achieving board certification, please contact the Coordinator of the Mentor Program, Dr. Leif K. Bakland, by any of the following means:
