2006 Summer Conference
August 2 – 6, 2006
Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa
at Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico
Update on Accomodations
Please note, the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa is near capacity. We recommend calling for rooms which may become available on a day to day basis.
Should none be available, consider the Holiday Inn Express in Bernalillo. This hotel is approximately 10 miles from the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa.

Prepare for a great experience! The resort is one of the loveliest resorts in New Mexico. You’ll be able to make adobe with your hands and enjoy the smell of fresh bread baking in Pueblo ovens. Observe and listen to tribal members relate their traditions and family histories.
Walk the same paths as the ancients and listen to the legends of the cosmos in the evening. Enjoy an area with all the spirit of the Santa Ana Pueblo culture together with the pleasures of a luxury resort.
Bring your golf clubs and tennis rackets, enjoy horseback riding and hot air ballooning, mountain biking and whitewater rafting, fly fishing and trips to Santa Fe! Be pampered in the spa and salon after exercising in the Fitness Center.
As in the past, each morning will include seminars devoted to an excellent learning experience. Our speakers are prepared to share and interact with you in an informal learning manner.
The three morning sessions will examine the microbiology of pulpal pathoses, why the dental pulp becomes infected and the organisms involved. Restoration of endodontically treated teeth will be fully discussed and everyone will be given an opportunity to interact with the speakers. The research each speaker has carried out will be examined, together with that of other reports. It is hoped that the meeting will answer questions as to why pulps die and how we can prevent completed cases from failing through proper restorative techniques.
Prior to the conference, you will receive several articles covering the areas to be discussed. This will allow you the opportunity to discuss areas of interest. Bring laptops! Internet connections will be available to help in searching for the most updated literature.
The afternoons will be devoted to leisure activity, briefly outlined above. The activities available are family-oriented and the resort can make your plans easily.
Please join us for this very interesting and unique learning experience in one of the most beautiful settings imaginable!

Richard Schwartz, DDS
Dr. Richard Schwartz brings a unique blend of interests to this year’s College of Diplomates Summer Meeting.
After graduation from the University of Minnesota in 1977, Dr. Schwartz began his career in Dentistry as a restorative dentist. He spent several years in the Dental Service of the United States Air Force and was a full-time faculty member at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio from 1988 to 1996. Dr. Schwartz finally saw the light and completed his residence in Endodontics at UT in 1998. He has authored a major textbook, Fundamentals of Operative Dentistry, published many articles and abstracts and has lectured extensively on restoration of endodontically treated teeth. His topic will be, “Everything an endodontist needs to know about restorative dentistry, but is afraid to ask.”
Dr. Markus Haapasalo
Dr. Markus Haapasalo has an interesting background. He received both his dental degree and his PhD from the University of Helsinki. His thesis concerned the microbiology of endodontic infections. Dr. Haapasalo headed the Endodontic department and was the Director of the Postgraduate program at the University of Oslo, Norway until 2004. He now is head of the Division of Endodontics at the University of British Columbia. Through his career he has authored over 80 papers in the field of endodontic medicaments, disinfection and microbiology.
Dr. Haapasalo will speak about endodontic infections and their elimination, persistent infections and treatment strategies. If time permits, resorptions with the emphasis on eeroical resorptions will be presented. The title of his presentation is “It’s all about infections . . . almost.”
